Dr. Gwen Flinchum is our bird specialist. Originally from Spruce Pine, North Carolina, she completed her undergraduate studies at North Carolina State University, then attended the University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine.

Dr. Flinchum first worked at The Bird Hospital. Practicing at an avian exclusive veterinary clinic, she was able to gain tremendous experience regarding avian medicine, eventually passing the rigorous standards set by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners to be designated an avian medicine specialist. She is the only board-certified avian specialist in Broward County.

Dr. Flinchum sees appointments at Nova Animal Hospital twice weekly, providing care for birds from Davie, Plantation, Cooper City, Fort Lauderdale, Southwest Ranches, and surrounding areas. From budgees to macaws, Dr. Flinchum offers bird grooming (wing trim, beak trim, or nail trim); wellness care (psittacosis testing and fecal checks); and illness care, providing the best and most advanced treatments. She is an accomplished avian surgeon and provides bird surgery services when needed.

Nova Animal Hospital's bird doctor also is the bird doctor for several local aviaries whose residents include flamingoes and black swans. Dr. Flinchum's own All Bird Clinic of the Palm Beaches provides care to bird patients of Palm Beach county.

Dr. Flinchum has written journal articles and book chapters for avian veterinary medicine publications. When she has time, she enjoys spending time with her own birds, as well as playing the banjo and the fiddle guitar.
